Three More Manchester United Players Might the Mass Exodus as the Ten Hag Era Begins

Manchester United, transfer, summer players leave, summer midfielders, right-back

Many Manchester United players will have to leave in the transfer window as the club prepare for a huge summer of rebuilding. The Erik ten Hag era begins and the manager has to showcase his authority on an under-performing squad.

The Red Devils had the worst defensive record and points tally in the Premier League era in a season where interim manager Ralf Rangnick ended up creating more chaos in the dressing room. But with a proven manager from Ajax in their ranks, the fans can hope that there will be a change in the tides and that the club will catch up to their rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

The likes of Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard have already confirmed their departures from Old Trafford at the end of this month. Lingard will feel disrespected for not being given a send-off after his long association with the club and is leaving on a sour note.

With Champions League football ruled out for next season, Ten Hag will look to revitalise the squad to help put up a fight for the Premier League and other domestic cups. Let us look at three players who might leave United due to the mass exodus this summer:

1. Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly has been warming the bench for almost the whole season to the point where he is replying to fans on social media begging for game-time. The defender hasn’t featured even once for the Red Devils since the turn of the year. His last Premier League game was to leave United this summer.

Bailly has been a victim of favouritism shown towards out-of-form captain Harry Maguire. Even when Maguire was rested, the Victor Lindelof – Raphael Varane pair has been employed. Even Phil Jones has been ahead in the pecking order, making 4 league appearances. The Ivorian has made 113 appearances in six years for United across all competitions (stats via Transfermarkt). He has won the Europa League, an EFL Cup and a FA Community Shield during this tenure.

2. Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial has been a solemn figure at Old Trafford for the past few years. He made a good comeback under Solskjaer in the 20/21 season, but has fallen off the track again this season. Having scored just one goal in 8 league appearances this season, the board are looking to offload him and bring in better options like Antony.

Martial was shipped off to Sevilla on a six-month loan in January, but he failed miserably, scoring zero goals. After such a performance, United will have to drop their valuation in the market to find a buyer. However, if Ten Hag feels he can bring out the potential in the Frenchman, then United have the option to extend a further year. For the time being, he seems more likely to be used in swap deals for the striker targets which United have shortlisted.

3. Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Former interim manager Ralf Rangnick had Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as right-back options in the squad. The 24-year-old has fallen woefully short of expectations since he ed in 2019. The former Crystal Palace man has not been effective with his end product in the final third. While he remains defensively astute, his technical ability on the ball has come under severe scrutiny.

Wan-Bissaka’s defensive stats match with some of the best in the Premier League, including the likes of Van Dijk, Ruben Dias and Cesar Azpilicueta. But in of attacking down the wings and putting the ball into the box for strikers, he seems to be struggling quite a bit. Players in his position like Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold are ing several assists and goals per season.

United could allow AWB to leave, with Crystal Palace and AS Roma rumoured to be interested parties. Dalot’s performances have been a tad more encouraging. The Portuguese defender has looked comfortable defensively and in driving possession forward. While his crossing still needs work, the 23-year-old could still be a useful back-up in Ten Hag’s system.
