He could still bring that quality to the United midfield which has had an exodus of stars in this transfer window, with the likes of one of Ten Hag’s priority targets in this summer transfer window. The midfielder is capable of creating better chances from both open play and dead-ball scenarios than most of the players present in the league.
Player Profile
Christian Eriksen is capable of playing in a deeper role in a midfield-three and has proven to be a useful Premier League player despite now reaching the age of 30. Despite playing in a deeper role, the Danish maestro has completed a higher number of key es (3.08 per 90 minutes) and crosses into the penalty area (0.77 per 90) for Brentford last season. Quality-wise, he is only behind the world-class Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City.

His efficiency from deep, his unmatched ing range, and formidable set-piece deliveries can bump up the stats of an average striker to 20 goals a season. The Dane’s poise and calming presence on the ball can offer Manchester United a new dimension to their ferocity in attack as he continues to evolve into more than just a creative ‘number 10’ midfielder. He has proven to have a strong ability in ing during defensive phases while he was with Inter Milan and Brentford, which will be a bonus for the Red Devils.

Verdict
It is very likely that Erik ten Hag will use the 4-3-3 formation that he favours and used frequently during his managerial tenure at Ajax. If the Danish midfielder arrives at Old Trafford, then Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen will be the two starting midfielders for Man United. However, without a defensive midfielder, both the attacking midfielders will find it difficult to dominate the middle of the pitch.
Therefore, there is a possibility that the Dutch manager could use him as a backup option for the Portuguese. However, it may not be very wise to leave a player of Eriksen’s calibre on the bench. The team could get their best return on investment if the two midfielders are present on the pitch at the same time.
If Ten Hag manages to find a way to accommodate all his best players together in one system, then United could be a very tough opponent to play against next season and the Red Devils could become serious top four contenders even after a disastrous 2021/22 season.
