Lukaku signed for United in a big money £75 million move from Everton two seasons ago. His record at the club is quite impeccable, with 42 goals and 13 assists in just 96 games. So why then, is he so poorly regarded by the club’s fans and not even seen as a better alternative to Marcus Rashford, who took his starting berth following the sacking of Jose Mourinho?
The fact of the matter is, Lukaku has been anything but spectacular in every aspect apart from his goal-scoring. He has been criticized for his woeful first touch, his frustrating lack of movement and his practically non-existent control. He just hasn’t been the same player that constantly challenged for the Premier League golden boot in the blue half of Merseyside.
The fans don’t appear to want him and with the striker still only 26 years of age, he may look to leave if he isn’t the club’s first choice up to play upfront at the start of next season. With that in mind, the club and the player have both kept their options open, and will settle for whatever is best for both parties.
According to reports in Italian news outlet Mauro Icardi leave the club in the current window, and have eyed Lukaku and former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as potential replacements.

The report goes on to state that Inter have already made with United about the move. The club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio is believed to have ed Ed Woodward about the transfer. A deal worth €30 million plus Ivan Perisic is said to be on the table.
United were interested in Perisic for quite some time, and spent the last two transfer windows trying to get him. However, at 30, Perisic does not appear to be a long term option and sorting out a deal for him might take quite some time. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to have his final squad ready by the first of July, so it will be interesting to see if the move goes through.
