Houssem Aouar could be on his way to Arsenal in less than two weeks as rumours of an agreement between Arsenal and Lyon is said to be close, according to Daily Mail. It all depends on the Gunners’ ability to raise significant cash for a down payment, a figure thought to be in the region of £30m with two further payments due, to finalise the move.

Earlier, Lyon rejected a cash plus player deal involving Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi. Lyon Sporting Director Juninho recently said that he isn’t interested in any swap deals involving Guendouzi. Juninho said:
“Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile.”
“We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”
Arsenal have tabled an improved bid for Houssem Aouar but it’s still thought to be short of the £55m the French side want. Arsenal’s technical director Edu is in regular communication with Lyon and the Brazilian is hoping to make headway, even with Manchester City’s alleged interest, as reported by the Mirror.
According to L’Equipe (via the Mirror), the French midfielder has expressed his desire to leave the Ligue 1 club. Moreover, Aouar recently spoke with Mikel Arteta and has been impressed by his persistence and ion. Is that enough? Not if the funds aren’t forthcoming.

Elsewhere, the deal for long-time Arsenal target Thomas Partey is said to have gone cold as the Gunners are unwilling to cough up £45million. The Gunners are now hoping that the Atletico Madrid player pushes for the move.
Meanwhile, Arsenal may have to decide between what appears to be their main two targets. At this stage, it appears to be Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, we’ll see what happens in the next two weeks.
