Although none of the above mentioned clubs could get their hand on Ramsey, the Walesh midfielder is yet to sign a contract extension with Arsenal, with his current contract ending next summer. And if current rumours are to be believed, the ex-Cardiff City midfielder is all set to Italian giants AC Milan on a free transfer, when the current season gets over.
Whatever maybe Ramsey’s decision, the Londoners need to be ready for the worst of situations, where the Welsh international leaves for free to Milan. It seems that Gunners board is already on the lookout for replacements for the Wales international, and have set their eyes on FC Porto’s midfielder Hector Herrera.

The Mexican international has spent his last five years at the Portuguese club, but his contract is poised to expire at the end of the current season, and could thus move to London on a free transfer. He now wants to move to a bigger club, among the top five leagues of Europe.
However, it would not be so easy to bring in the 28-year-old midfielder from Estadio Dragao, as it sounds. According to Corriere dello Sport, a number of European clubs are after the signature of the midfielder, with Real Madrid, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, holding an interest regarding Herrera.
If he does not arrive for free in the summer, there is also an option for the clubs to snap up the 28-year-old midfielder for a very low price during the winter transfer window, provided the Portuguese side allow it.
The Italian publication also mentioned that Roma is the preferred destination of the Herrera, with the Mexican international being content with the package that the Rome based club have put in front of him.

However, according to the Spanish daily AS, Herrera had a meeting with the new Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui during the recently concluded international break. Herrera has previously played two years under the former Spain manager when Lopetegui was the Porto manager.
According to me, Arsenal should finalise Herrera as the replacement of Ramsey should he leave. Rather than waiting till the summer for a free transfer, Unai Emery should finalise everything during the winter transfer window, and pay a minimal price to Porto for the talented as well as experienced Mexican international, and thus ward off competition from the other European heavyweights. Herrera could be a vital addition for long term success, to the current Arsenal squad under their new manager Emery.
