If he does make a switch to the red half of North London, Aurier will come with bags of experience and that might be a blessing in disguise for the current squad which is extremely young.

The full-back has made 160 appearances in Ligue 1, 77 in the Premier League, 26 in the Champions League, and 16 in Ligue 2. While he has represented Ivory Coast at the international stage 66 times.

There are no doubts about his experience and the “good vibes” that he brings into the dressing room. The thing that is up for debate is his hot-headedness.

Aurier has been sent off several times in his career and that is certainly a cause for major concern. Lack of concentration is another problem that Arsenal might have to deal with.

The Gunners have acquired the services of Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu. While manager Mikel Arteta persuaded Ainsley Maitland-Niles to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

The London outfit also have two other options for the right-back slot, Calum Chambers and Cedric. Thus, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal follow up to their reported interest with more conviction.

French side Lille were interested in landing the former PSG star. But Zeki Celik’s collapsed move to Atletico Madrid meant that Lyon dropped their interest.

Other clubs who have been credited with an interest are Watford, Real Betis, Spartak Moscow, and Genoa.

Japhet Tanganga has impressed at the right-back slot and Aurier was clearly told by new manager Nuno Espirito Santo that he was not in his short-term as well as long-term thinking.

If Arsenal had fewer options at the right-back slot, g Aurier on a free would have been rational, to some extent.

Maitland-Niles have already cleared the air and is willing to play as a full-back. Given the qualities that he possesses, he can certainly come good as a backup option to the new g, Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Thus, in my opinion, Arsenal should avoid g Serge Aurier, even if it is somewhat appealing to add him to the ranks
