A humongous problem for Arsenal this season has been their weak defence, much like it has been under Arsene Wenger. By defensive standards, they would rank somewhere among the bottom few teams on the Premier League table. Therefore, the reports that Arsenal manager Unai Emery is looking for a centre-back to consolidate his defence does not come as a surprise and name being earmarked as a target is Diene Dakonam. 15e3r
Getafe and Togolese national defender Djene Dakonam has been pivotal in contributing to Getafe’s successful 2018/19 season. In fact, he is undoubtedly one of the best central defenders in Spain. Recently, reports emerged that Arsenal would be interested in g Dakonam. The speculation heightened when Unai Emery was spotted at Estadio Mestalla watching clash between Valencia and Getafe. He is believed to have been watching the 27-year old Dakonam and his style of play.
Meanwhile, Everton too have indicated interest in the Togolese defender
Djene Dakonam would be a perfect addition for Arsenal’s squad in the coming season. Not only would he possibly raise the standards of the presently struggling Gunners’ defence, but he also has a buyout clause of €35 million (£31m) which fits within Arsenal’s transfer budget. With Getafe narrowly missing out on a Champions League spot this season, Marca have also suggested that Getafe president Angel Torres will not stand in the way of any club which agrees to meet the buyout clause.
A number of clubs have noticed the Getafe talent and are interested in securing his signature. In addition to Arsenal and Everton – Leicester City, Barcelona and possibly Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal are sure to work very hard in g Dakonam as they are in dire need of one. Next season, Laurent Koscielny will turn 35, Sokratis will turn 31 and Nacho Monreal will turn 34. Shkrodan Mustafi, it goes without saying that it is high time for him to leave Arsenal. Konstantinos Mavropanos cannot be accurately judged as of yet, whilst Rob Holding can be depended upon for the seasons. Having just one solid and dependable long-term option does not work well for any club. Therefore, g of a centre back is of utmost importance to the North London club.

Many Arsenal fans are calling for the sale of Mustafi to make the place (and money, if needed) to enable Dakonam’s move to the Emirates. Given Mustafi’s performance, they are absolutely right to do so.

Only time will tell if Dakonam will don the Gunners’ jersey next season.
